Welcome to the memorial page for

Leonard D. Kushman

December 19, 1935 ~ July 2, 2017 (age 81) 81 Years Old

It is with great sorrow that we report the passing of our amazing dad - Leonard D. Kushman

Leonard passed away on July 2, 2017 at the age of 81, at Queen of the Valley hospital after a battle with pneumonia. He passed away peacefully with his family by his side. His devotion to his family and his firm belief in God supported him in his struggles and ultimately gave him peace.

Leonard was born to the late Paul and Geneva Kushman, in South Dakota in December 1935.

Paul and Geneva had 6 children and in 1947 the family drove from South Dakota to Napa. They stayed at their Aunt and Uncle Brown’s until they bought the family home on Oak Street, here in Napa. Leonard graduated from Napa High School in 1954. He began his career at Basalt in 1954, starting in the block factory. In 1956 Leonard moved to Alaska where he worked construction and moved houses with his older brother Delbert. The Army drafted him from Alaska and sent him to Augusta, GA, then to a Nike site in New Jersey. After his service in the Army he returned to Napa and continued his career at Basalt. He worked all positions at the pre-cast plant until his retirement in 1989 when he held the title “Pre-cast Foreman”.

Leonard was blessed with a large and loving family. He met his wife, Faye in Napa and they were married in September 1966 in Carson City, NV. They celebrated their Golden wedding anniversary last year. After Leonard and Faye were married they were able to purchase Leonard’s family home on Oak Street in 1970. They raised 5 children there and continue to live in the same home to date.

Leonard was a devout Christian that read his Bible daily. He had read the Bible cover to cover 7 times and in fact was reading the Bible again and made it through to the book of Philippians at the time of his passing. He was a loving husband and father and was known as the “neighborhood dad”. He loved family BBQ’s and Easter egg hunts, riding motorcycles and bicycles all over Napa. He enjoyed watching Nascar with his family and loved going to the ocean.

Leonard is dearly missed by his loved ones, who celebrate the fact that he is at peace with his creator.

Leonard is survived by his wife of 50 years, Faye; his brother-in-law Ray; his sons Duane (Gigi), Dale and Randy (Tina); his daughters Rhonda (Nick), Pam and Kim; his 7 grandchildren; and 4 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Warren, Delbert and Harley; and sisters, Evelyn and Ruth.

A service will be held at Tulocay Cemetery at 1:00 p.m. on July 13, 2017.  All are welcome to attend and celebrate Leonard's life.
