LeRoy "Roy" Sternberg passed away peacefully at The Queen of the Valley Hospital on July 24th in Napa, CA at the age of 96.
Roy is survived by his children, Randy Sternberg and Marlene Lampert from Hidden Valley Lake, CA; and sibling Edna Holms from Sacramento, CA. Roy is preceded in death by his wife Marcia “Huston” Sternberg from Kelseyville, CA; his second wife Helen “Michaelson” Sternberg from Royal, NE; his son Jim Sternberg from Neligh, NE and infant daughter Nancy Sternberg, Neligh, NE.
Roy was born on August 29th 1921 in rural Nebraska to Henry and Bessie Sternberg. After returning from the European theatre of World War II, he married Marcia Huston on March 20th 1946. After their marriage, Roy and Marcia began farming in Northeast Nebraska. Over the next 10 years, the couple welcomed 3 children into their home and Roy set about teaching them about farming. His children remember him as a strong, hard working but fun loving father who encouraged them to do anything they wanted if they worked hard and dreamed big.
Roy was self-taught but accomplished at many trades. Everything from farming, raising livestock, construction, electrical, mechanical fabrication, sales and woodworking. He was a generous, witty, and dedicated individual who loved the outdoors, animals, trees and fishing. He was sought out for his ability to get things done.
A funeral is scheduled for August 11th 2018 at the Methodist Church in Neligh, NE at 10:00 a.m. with a reception to follow at the Senior Center in Neligh. A Memorial service will also be held on September 13th 2018 at 10:00 am at the Chapel in Veterans Home in Yountville, CA. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Roy's life.
