I am saddened to see the passing of Jim. I didn't know he had passed until late yesterday. I would have went to his funeral if I had found out sooner. Jim and I grew up together in Napa Junction. We played cow boys and Indians, had mud ball and tomato fights in the fields next to my house. We used to call him Jimmy, also Gunther. A name given him by his sister. His sister lived right next door to me in Napa Junction. He would come to visit her there and we all hung out and had some good times. Many good memories. I think the last time I saw him was at his sisters funeral, many years ago. Time went by and we hadn't seen each other since. Just once, I think on Facebook. Again, I am sorry to see he is no longer with us. I will always have great memories of our childhood together. My condolences to his family. May he rest in peace.

Very sorry for the loss of Jim, we were in the same apprentice class at Mare Island starting in 1968. We enjoyed good and bad times together during our careers at the shipyard, but maintained a good friendship, he will be missed. Ron

I am so sorry to hear about Jimmy. A few weeks back I left a message for Him on the class of 67 website. When we were both about 5 or 6 years old, we both attended Donaldson Way School. There was no school facility. The district rented or bought 6 new houses in a dead end court. Each house was used for a specific grade. I started school a bit after the start of the school year. I didn't know any of the kids, and I had no school supplies. I was seated next to Jimmy Gondola. When the teacher asked all the kids to take out their Crayons from their cigar boxes, I began to cry because I had no cigar box or crayons. Jimmy told me not to cry and shared his crayons with me. Jimmy was my very first friend in first grade. Like Jimmy, I am 67 years old and have never forgotten his act of kindness to the new kid in school.......

My deepest condolences to Jim's family as this very difficult time. Jim was a truly great friend and we have so many memories of the wonderful times at the ranch with him. It is hard to believe he is no longer with us. We will truly miss him and may he rest peacefully and his memory be eternal. Until we meet again my friend.

I will always remember Jim as my favorite coworker at Mare Island. He made the teams I led cooperative groups of people who became friends who were fun to be with. I have thought of him often and very fondly. I am sorry for your loss. He was truly one of a kind. My prayers to the family. I won't forget him.
