Helen B. Slack

1927—2018

Helen Slack passed away, Friday morning 2/2/2018, peacefully, at home with her sons, Ron and Bob Slack and her four-legged companion, Harry by her side. She was born to Edward and Lucile Froom Beach in San Francisco, CA. Helen was the youngest of three girls. Her sisters, Ruth Peters and Dorothy MacMurdo preceded her in death.

The family moved to Yreka, CA as Helen’s father, a minister moved to a new Parish. Helen was getting ready to start high school when she first met her best friend Ruthie Wiseman. The two stayed in close contact for over 70 years. After graduation, Helen moved back to San Francisco where she attended City College and obtained her AA degree in business and accounting.

Once again, Helen and her parents were on the move again—this time to St. Helena, CA, which is where she met her future husband, George Slack. They were married on 5/16/1951 in St. Helena and then moved to Napa. Helen gave birth to three sons -Ronald (Napa), Richard who died in 2016, and Robert (Napa). She is survived by her grandsons. Eric and Christopher are Richard’s sons, and Sean is Bob’s son. She is also survived by four great grandchildren, and ten nephews and nieces,

Helen worked for many years as the bookkeeper for Dr. Richard Clark. She worked for several other physicians through the years.

Helen had many passions and hobbies in addition to being the absolute number one fan of the Oakland A’s. She enjoyed baking at Christmas and making chocolate chip cookies to spoil her sons, grandkids and friends. Memories of Helen’s spirit for her church, her unique sense of humor and finding the fun in living and enjoying friends and family will always be an inspiration to everyone.

A celebration of life will be held Friday, 2/23/2018 at 1:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church, 625 Randolph St., Napa, CA In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Helen’s name to Hospice of Napa.
