Welcome to the memorial page for

Eva Hortense Allison

February 14, 1925 ~ December 9, 2017 (age 92) 92 Years Old

Eva H. Allison, 92, passed away December 9, 2017 after a long battle with Dementia.  She was born on Valentines Day, February 14, 1925 to Ollie Elizabeth & William Bryan Hutchison of North Fork Valley, Pueblo County, Colorado.  During her elementary school years she attended and graduated from School District No. 21 in the County of  Delta, Colorado. While Eva attended High School, her Father became very ill with stomach cancer. On June 15, 1939 he underwent the transplant of a goat’s stomach, which was one of the first experimental transplants of this type conducted in the United States.  He was 42 when he died three days later on June 18, 1939 at Fitzsimmons Hospital, Denver, CO.  The family continued to reside in Colorado, but Ollie could not continue to operate their farm so a Public Sale was held January 12, 1940 to liquidate the livestock, equipment and household goods.   The family then moved into Hotchkiss, CO where Eva graduated from Hotchkiss High, May 15, 1942.  Following Eva’s graduation and after WWII began, the family moved to Napa, California in order for Ollie to find employment.  Eva attended college for about a year and then became employed by Mare Island Naval Shipyard.  She was a WAC that attained the position of Machinist and because she was so small in stature they called her “Little Eva.”  During this time period a dance club called the “Dream Bowl” was located close to what is now the intersection of Highway 29 & 12.  It was in this club where Eva was introduced to her future husband, Larry R. Allison.  They could cut a mean rug both dancing and roller skating.  On May 19, 1951 they were married at the First Baptist Church of Napa by Rev. John E. Hadley.  His son, also Rev. John Hadley and wife Elaine, were longtime friends of Eva and Larry.  Eva then quit working for Mare Island and became employed by Pacific Telephone and Telegraph which is now AT&T.  When she became pregnant with their daughter, Kathryn, Eva stopped working to become a homemaker. Eva participated in the Salvador PTA, as a Sunday School Teacher for many years and as a 4-H leader helping children learn to sew.   She enjoyed cooking, crocheting, knitting, reading, sewing, gardening, and camping.  She attended the Napa Valley Baptist Church.

The family wishes to express their most sincere thanks to her physician, Dr. David Pratt, for his kind compassionate care and also the staff members of Napa Post Acute Care who were also kind, warm, very attentive and caring during her illness.

Eva is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Kathryn & Scott Carter, a grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Gregory & Christine Carter; and extended family members James (Jim) Moize; James (Jay) Moize, Paul & Becky, Jack and Julianna Moize as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her Father, Eva was predeceased by her Husband, Larry R. Allison, a Brother, Durward Kenneth Hutchison and her Mother, Ollie E. Hutchison.

A funeral service will be held for Eva at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 6, 2018 at Tulocay Mortuary, 411 Coombsville Road, Napa, with Rev. Ron Driscoll, officiating.  A short graveside service will be followed by a reception in Tulocay’s Reception area.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Napa Valley Baptist Church, 2303 Trower Ave, Napa, CA 94558 or Napa Post Acute Care, 705 Trancas Street, Napa, CA 94558 marked for Patient Activities or the Alzheimer’s Research Foundation, 3152 Little Road, Suite 146, Trinity, FL 34655.
