ELVIA M. Mercado

Elvia Margarita Mercado, age 76 of Napa, passed away on December 12, 2017, peacefully at Kaiser Permanente Vallejo Medical Center, surrounded by her husband, family, and loved ones. She was born on August 4, 1941 in Guatemala City, Guatemala, to the late Ricardo Robles and Margarita Palomo Keller. In September of 1954, Elvia and her siblings, Maria Eugenia (Mary Jean) Robles and Ricardo Robles, moved to San Francisco, California. She met her current husband Francisco Mercado in 1963 and they were married in 1987.

Elvia is survived by her husband, Francisco Mercado; six children, Liz Mercado (Pete Peralta), Jackie (Ben) Alamillo, James (Maria) Mercado, Rick (Lori) Vargas, Donald (Sonia) Garcia, and Martha (William) Arguello; Grandchildren, Christina, Erica, Guillermo, Bobby, Donald, Nikolai, Ricky, Jessica, Deanna, Shyanne, Cherrelle, Benjamin, Joaquin, Leticia, Jazmin, Samuel, Isabella, Elysa Jade, Joshua, Justin, Julia, and Alicia; and numerous great-grandchildren, family and friends. Her daughter, Ivonne Huerta, preceded her in death.

Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Her family was her number one priority. She enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s graduations, sport activities, school functions, recitals, weddings, and parties. Elvia enjoyed taking trips to Calistoga with her husband, taking long walks, shopping, and loved desserts, especially desserts with a lot of frosting. Elvia was a fighter – during her lifetime she has fought multiple back injuries, a brain shunt, colon cancer, breast cancer, and Alzheimer’s. Prior to spending the last decade as a resident of Napa County, Elvia was a long time resident of both San Francisco and Oakland.

Elvia’s generous and loving heart, calm and patient spirit will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

The visitation is from 3:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Thursday, December 21, 2017 at the Tulocay Cemetery Funeral Home in Napa, California. The funeral service will be held at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church at 10:00 am on Friday, December 22, 2017. The burial will follow at Rolling Hills Memorial Park in Richmond, California.
