Beth Carpenter Obituary

It is with great sadness the family of Elizabeth Carpenter announces her passing on March 12th after living courageously, for many years, with cancer.  She lived courageously and with a positive attitude, no matter what the setting. Beth was a woman who lit up the room with her smile and was a joy to everyone she new.

Beth was born on February 13, 1950 in Ross, California to Scott and Nancy Bowman.  She, along with her five siblings and mother, relocated to Kentucky, then to Idaho, following the career of her father who was a Presbyterian Minister.  The family eventually returned to California, settling in Rohnert Park, when Beth was still in grade school.   Beth was very close to her maternal grandparents and often recalled spending summers with them in San Anselmo and later Novato.  A highlight of her teen life was being crowned Miss Rohnert Park at the age of 17 in 1968.

Beth married Ron Hire soon after high school and had her daughter Cherie. They moved to Napa in 1976. In 1977 Beth married Ted Carpenter, an avid car enthusiast, and the two of them enjoyed membership and many friends as part of the Early Ford V8 Club, Redwood Empire Chapter.  Beth and Ted made their home in Napa where she worked for Syar Industries, retiring in 2010 after a 35-year career there. They enjoyed cruising to Alaska, Mexico, Hawaii and the Caribbean as well as traveling the United States with their car club.

Beth shared her wisdom in the most loving ways with her daughter, Cherie, and grandchildren, Danika and Nelson by doing puzzles and playing board games with them, teaching them crafts and how to sew and cross stitch.  She and Danika sewed dolls and with Nelson she did wood working projects.  She attended every school, sports and music event they were involved in and took them often for weekend “Grandma vacation.”

Beth was a wonderful quilter, seamstress, knitter, and a voracious reader.  She was a member of the Napa Valley Quilters Guild and also a proud member of the Napa Red Hat Society.  Beth had a wonderful group of friends whom she was always grateful for.

Her parents and sisters, Janet, Sue and Cathy, predecease Beth.  She is survived by her husband Ted, her sister and brother, Sally Bowman and Don Bowman and her nephew Rob Bowman.  She is also survived by her beloved daughter Cherie, son-in-law Todd, and her grandchildren, Danika and Nelson whom she loved so dearly.
