Alfred Matthew Callistini

Alfred (Al) Matthew Callistini passed away peacefully August 20th, 2017, he was 95 years old. Alfred was born in Detroit Michigan November 6th, 1921, to Italian emigrants Carlo and Catarina Callistini. At the age of 10, his family moved to St. Helena, California where Alfred grew up learning to hunt, fish and cook from his Father who was a local chef. With WWII raging, Alfred joined the Army where he was deployed to Saipan. Honorably discharged from the Army, Alfred returned to St. Helena where he met his wife Dorothy Jean, and together they raised six kids. Alfred and Dorothy owned and operated the St. Helena Chevron station for 39 years. Beyond his family, Alfred had two great passions, wood working and fishing. Alfred always had a boat in Bodega Bay where he did a little commercial fishing as well as bringing home salmon and rock fish for the family. Retiring from the Chevron station, Alfred bought property in Port Orford Oregon where he lived part time, built a shop, milled wood, and continued his two passions of wood working and fishing. For the past eleven years he enjoyed life residing in Napa.

Alfred was predeceased by his wife Dorothy Jean Callistini in 2009. He is survived by his 6 children: daughter Barbara (Larry) Sawyer of Napa, son Steve (Sherry) Callistini of Oregon City, OR, daughter Beverly (Gip) Callistini-Hoppe of Cape Cod, MA, son David (Leah) Callistini of Sitka, AK, daughter Jennifer (Ted) Callistini-Edwards of Napa, son Andrew (Donna) Callistini of Sitka, AK. His 10 grandchildren: Amy (Brad) Bleichner, Erin (Jon) Soper, Derek (Monica) Taylor, Mariah Callistini, Alfredo Callistini, Justin (Katelyn) Callistini, Sherray Callistini, Aaron Callistini, Stella Callistini, Carlo Callistini, His 5 great grandchildren: Hannah Ghiringhelli, Abigail Bleichner, Ben Ghiringhelli, Laurel Bleichner, Blake Taylor
