Robert Zanardi Obituary

Robert (Bob) Albert Zanardi

Robert Zanardi was born January 4, 1944 and passed away February 26, 2024 at the age of 80. He was
predeceased by his parents Albert R. Zanardi and Janice (Neilson) Zanardi.
He was born at Parks Valley Hospital in Napa. Bob attended Alta Heights Elementary
School, Ridgeview and Silverado Junior High Schools, and Napa High School graduating in 1962. He
lettered in Baseball at Silverado Junior High School. He attended Napa College from 1962-1964. He was
a member of the Tennis team at Napa High and Napa College. In his youth he was both a Cub and Boy
Scout. After graduating from Napa College he went on a Church Mission for Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter Day Saints from 1964-1966. Following his Mission he was a student at Brigham Young University
in Utah where he studied Journalism and Sports Administration. Following his studies at BYU, he
returned to Napa and worked in the Circulation Department of the Napa Register for 15 years. He then
followed his true love of working with youth and special education students for the Napa Unified School
District from 1989 to 2006. During this tenure, he served on several special volunteer school boards,
athletics, choir, Alumni, and Hall of Fame committees. Following his retirement, he continued his
involvement with Napa High School as a member of the Class of 1962 Alumni Association and
coordinated many of their quarterly luncheon meetings. Bob was a man of great faith, very active as an
Elder in his Church, teaching Sunday School, serving in the Napa Stake Sunday School Presidency, and
facilitating activities for local Church Missionaries.
During his retirement he enjoyed travels with his brother Gary to the Baseball Hall Fame in
Cooperstown, NY and Football Hall Fame in Canton, Ohio. He had the opportunity to see San Francisco
Giants play the Cleveland Indians in Cleveland, Ohio. And while there visited the Rock and Roll Hall of
Fame, They saw the Yankees play at Yankee Stadium and the Rangers play in Texas. They visited Niagara
Falls and Historic Fort Niagara. They traveled together to many L.D.S. Historic sites to include Palymra,
New York that included attending the Hill Cumorah Pageant and the Temple in Kirkland, Ohio. But he
especially enjoyed the simple things like weekly breakfasts with his Zanardi cousins, Lou, JoAnn, and
John at the Black Bear Restaurant.
Bob was an avid sports fan. He was a devoted fan of the San Francisco Giants, San Francisco 49ers, and
his beloved BYU Cougars. But most of all he loved his local Napa High sports and school activities. He
was a long-time supporter of Napa High athletics, drama, choir, band, and the performing arts. He
supported multi generations of Napa youth and was a cherished figure in the community becoming
affectionately known as “Rooter Bob.”
Bob is survived by his brothers Gary (Lynn) Zanardi and Tom (Karen) Zanardi, many cousins, nieces, and
nephews.
A memorial service is planned for March 9, 2024 at 3:00Pm Pacific Time at The Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter Day Saints on the corner of Tower and Dry Creek Rd, Napa, California. In lieu of flowers,
contributions can be made to the Napa High Booster Alumni.
