Shirley Wong

Shirley Wong was born in Canton Province, China on November 13, 1932. Shirley emigrated with her siblings from China in 1954 and settled in San Francisco.

She met the love of her life, Ming Wong, on a blind date at a Valentine’s Day dance in San Francisco. Their courtship led to their wedding on June 16, 1957 at St. Mary’s Church in Chinatown. She then moved to Napa to live in the country with her new family. She learned to cook and became famous for her “specialties” – many will remember all the cookies, “rice krispy” treats, cakes, and sticky rice. She was the ultimate homemaker! Shirley was a loving and devoted wife to Ming for almost 60 years.

After Ming retired in 1985, he and Shirley loved to travel with their beloved dogs and Airstream trailer seeing the United States and getting in as much fishing as they could. She also enjoyed gardening, cooking, and time with family.

Shirley passed away on October 2, 2016, after a short illness. She is survived by her husband, Ming, and their daughter, Susie. She also leaves behind her brother and 3 sisters and numerous cousins and nephews and nieces. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, auntie, and friend. Her sense of humor and caring nature to family will be remembered by all who loved her.

The visitation will be on Wednesday evening, October 12th, from 5-9 pm. A funeral service will be held on October 13, 2016 at 11am at Tulocay Cemetery and Funeral Home, 411 Coombsville Road, Napa. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in memory of Shirley Wong be made the American Cancer Society or to another charity of your choice.
