A life-long resident of Napa, California, Ron passed away peacefully in his home April 11, 2017, after a long illness. He was 92.
Ron was born March 21, 1925 to Max and Anna Hartdegen in Glencove, California, the youngest of their three children. Ron attended high school in Napa.
In June of 1943, Ron enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving during World War II as an MP and then specializing as a Medical Laboratory Technician. In 1946, he was Honorably Discharged, returning to Napa, California. He met his wife, Dorothy, the following year.
Ron became a very skilled sheet metal worker while working at Mare Island, Vallejo over the next 35 years. Ron, Dorothy and her three children continued to reside in Napa after their marriage on December 10th, 1956.
Ron enjoyed water-skiing, boating and woodworking. He spent his spare time designing and building boats, and various projects for neighbors and friends. He was very meticulous in the details of his craftmanship. He was also instrumental in organizing yearly Mother’s Day potlucks and barbecues for the family.
Ron leaves behind his wife, Dorothy Hartdegen; three children Patricia Hartley (Richard) of Napa, Joyce Houk (Paul) of Oregon, and Bill Milliken of California; seven grandchildren, Teresa Gottschall of Clearlake, CA, Phyllis Thomas of Anchorage, AK, Nora Crawford (Curt) of Astoria, OR, Bernice Johnson (Richard) of Astoria, OR, Robert Houk of Astoria, OR,Lisa Halleib of Napa, CA, and Doug Milliken of Japan; several great-grandchildren and numerous great-great grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews.
He is proceeded in death by his parents and siblings.
Funeral arrangements are in care of Tulocay Cemetery, 411 Coombsville Road, Napa, CA. Viewing will be Friday, April 28th, 2017, from 9:00 am to 11:00 am, with funeral services to follow at 11:00 am at Tulocay.
A celebration of Ron’s life will be held in the Reception Hall at Tulocay at 12:00 pm, following services.
