Welcome to the memorial page for

Robert Carlton Rowe

June 21, 1938 ~ February 14, 2017 (age 78) 78 Years Old

Bob died peacefully early in the morning on Valentines Day. He was 78. Born in Los Angeles, he had a wonderful childhood growing up the the 40s and 50s. No TV, just a gang of kids on the block in Santa Monica. Kick the Can, Ditch, homemade coasters speeding down the hill to the swamp at the bottom of 18th st. Coming home bruised and scratched and being wiped clean with Iodine by our Mom. We played football on the street, over the line baseball at the school yard and any other sort of sport we could make up. Bob had some great friends in the neighborhood, there was Jack Hammerstrom (no one could strike him out), Harry Marble (inventor of anything that flew or went fast), and his best buddy Bill Hoag. Bill and Bob would pitch to each other for hours against a steep bank for a back stop and try their best to strike the other guy out. He played Little League, Pony League and starred in High School as a pitcher. We moved to San Rafael where he pitched for the Bull Dogs at San Rafael High. He pitched two no hitters in his senior year. He continued to pitch thru college and for the Petaluma Giants, farm club to the SF Giants. He joined the Navy and was stationed at San Diego. After discharge he went to San Francisco State. Missed graduating by a few units and remarkably went back at 67 yrs old to earn his degree. At 3 in the morning, I heard him ask, "Tell me about Santa Monica", I did and he breathed his last breath.

Bob is survived by his son and daughter Richard and Eileen,  brothers Jerry and I, Jim, many cousins and others.

Services will be private. Condolences may be shared with the family at www.tulocaycemetery.org
