Robert John Bacigalupi, DDS

Longtime Napa Valley Club resident, Robert J Bacigalupi, 94, passed peacefully on September 17, at Queen of the Valley Medical Center following complications from an accidental fall two months prior.  He is survived by his wife Aileen and daughter Barbara Bacigalupi.  September 23rd would have marked Aileen and Robert’s 70th wedding anniversary.

Born in San Francisco in 1921 to the late Irene and John (Jack) Bacigalupi, he grew up in North Beach behind the famed Sts Peter and Paul Catholic Church where Robert was an active member of the Boys Club sponsored by the Salesians of Don Bosco. He credited this association as instrumental in his formation as a responsible and caring adult.  He later graduated from Lowell High School and attended San Francisco State before enrolling in the University of the Pacific School of Dentistry (formerly Physicians and Surgeons). He was commissioned as a Lieutenant JG in the United States Navy upon graduation from dental school and served in the pacific.  Following WWII, he settled in El Cerrito and practiced general dentistry for over 38 years in Albany.  

He was an active member at St. Jerome’s Catholic Church, a Paul Harris Rotary Fellow in the Albany Rotary Club, a founding member of Richmond Golf and Country Club, and an active participant in the East Bay Bonsai Society. Robert and Aileen moved their full time residence from El Cerrito to their second home in Napa seven years ago to be closer to his large extended Italian family, including the late Edna Bacigalupi Stornetta, and cousins Joan Pedrelli, and Charles (Chuck) and Arlene Stornetta and their respective families. 

A funeral Mass celebrating his life will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, September 25th at St Apollinaris Catholic Church, 3700 Lassen St, Napa. Burial at Tulocay Cemetery will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to Salesian College Preparatory, 2851 Salesian Avenue, Richmond, CA 94804 for the Robert Bacigalupi Scholarship Fund.
