JACK M. NICHOLSON

1927 – 2016

With great sadness, our family announces that Jack, age 89, passed away peacefully at his home near Travis AF Base on July 2, 2016, from complications due to old age. He was born in San Francisco, CA, son of William Coten originally from Texas, and Juanita Alkire of Napa, and lived most of his early life in the Napa Valley. After attending Napa High School, he enlisted in the US Air Force in 1945. His twenty year career involved mainly cargo logistics and passenger services until his retirement at Travis in 1965.

After the military, Jack went into private business with his stepfather Ray Kilgore, who opened an automotive repair facility in Napa in 1965. Jack eventually became sole owner of the business until his second retirement in 1989. He was very active in the Napa community serving as Eucharistic Minister with St. Apollinaris Church and was an avid bowler winning many league awards at Bel Aire Bowl. In 1996, Jack and his wife Betty, relocated to Fairfield to be closer to relatives and the Travis base facilities. Through the years, Jack was also active with St. Michael’s Church, serving as Deacon and visiting patients in David Grant Medical Center, at Travis. He also volunteered at the Fairfield Senior Center where he called many Bingo games.

Jack is survived by his loving wife Roberta Lauser Nicholson, sister Juanita Gerl, son Ben Nicholson, and daughter Jeanette Nicholson; grandchildren Suzanne Nicholson, Kyle Nicholson, Tony Nicholson, Michelle Nicholson and Mardell Uhl, along with many great grand kids, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and son’s Richard and James Nicholson, and granddaughter Brenda Nicholson.

02/10/1927 Jack’s final resting place will be in the Nicholson family burial plot at Tulocay Cemetery, 411 Coombsville Rd. Napa, CA 94558; Tel: 707-252-4727.  Family and friends are invited July 14, 2016, at 12:00 noon, for a religious memorial service at the cemetery chapel and military gravesite burial of his ashes. A gathering to honor Jack and his family will be held at Tulocay reception hall immediately after.   Memories may be shared with the family on-line at www.tulocaycemetery.org.
