1922—2018
Irene Walker peacefully went home to be with her Lord on March 20, 2018. She is remembered as a humble and giving person who always thought of others first. She is best known for being the pianist and organist at First Christian Church (from the age of 16) for more than 40 years. She used the gifts that God gave her and was highly respected.
Irene was born on a 160 acre farm in Iowa 95 years ago. She moved to California with her parents and brother when she was five. Several years after graduating from Napa Union High School, Irene married Bob Walker, one of her brother’s best friends. They were married more than 50 years. She was a devoted wife and after his stroke left him in need of Assisted Living, she visited him for hours every single day for more than a year before he died at age 81. She had two daughters, two grandchildren, one great grandchild, a nephew, a niece and dozens of first cousins.
Memorial services will be held at First Christian Church, 2659 1st St, Napa on Saturday, April 21, at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to — napa.salvationarmy.org. If you would like to send flowers, please choose an arrangement in a vase, so that following the Memorial Service, the flowers can be taken to the sick and shut-in.
