HELEN BARLOGGI

1934-2015

Helen Marie Barloggi, 81 years young, passed away at her residence, Adobe House of Petaluma, on Sunday, July 12, 2015, at 5:05 in the afternoon while surrounded by her family. Her strong will to live and the support of her family and friends carried her through her lengthy illness until the very end. She will always be remembered in our hearts as one of the strongest and bravest women we have ever loved.

Helen was born in Napa Valley, California, on January 3, 1934, to Ernest and Margaret Zeller. Helen grew up in the Canerous area and spent her summers picking prunes on the family ranch. She graduated from Napa High School in 1951.  After graduating high school, she met Elmer Barloggi and they married on April 11, 1953, in Reno, Nevada. They settled in Napa. Helen worked as a bank teller for Bank of America until they started a family.  She returned to work in January 1973 for the Napa County Tax Collector’s office as an Account Clerk ll until she retired in 1990 after 17 years of employment.  She was a member of the Rolling Ridge Riders, Saddle Jackets and the Estee Club. Helen was a life-time resident of Napa Valley until she moved to Petaluma in 2014.

Helen especially enjoyed spending time doing things with her family and many friends. She loved helping at craft fairs, canning pickles, making Nuts and Bolts (trail mix) which she gave as gifts every Christmas, raising and riding horses, sewing, creating works of art in needlepoint, gardening, listening to old time country music, and reading. However, Helen always enjoyed walking especially during her last year. She walked her way into the hearts of her extended family at Adobe House of Petaluma. There, she was truly loved by all as she made her walking rounds with friends and family members, giving hugs as she strolled by staff. They were truly a blessing to Helen and her family.

Helen will always be remembered for her love of everything around her. As a child, she was always full of mischief and excitement. She seemed to always find ways to entertain those around her with her sense of humor. Throughout her life she always had a love of animals, especially horses and during her last years her puppy, Skeeter.  Helen will be remembered as a simple, sweet woman with a beautiful smile and a sparkle in her eye. She had a way of always making one feel at home. Her constant smile, her hard work and her determination to live will never be forgotten.

Helen’s parents, Ernest and Margaret Zeller of Napa, her husband, Elmer Barloggi and her sisters, Ruth Crivelli of Napa and Catherine Perkins of Alpine, California, preceded her in death.

Surviving Helen is her brother William Zeller (Shirley) of Napa; her children, sons Ken Barloggi (Corie) of Middletown and Steve Barloggi (Mary) of Napa; daughter Joann Jinks (Rob) of Calistoga; granddaughters Brittany and Sammy Barloggi of Napa and Brandy Tarap (Paul) of Summerset, South Dakota; grandsons Colton Jinks (Carly) of Napa and Joshua Knoell of Redding; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Helen’s memorial service to celebrate her life will take place on Saturday, August 1, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. at Tulocay Funeral Home with a reception following.  Memories and words of sympathy may be shared with the family on-line at www.tulocaycemetery.org.
