Harriett Gall

1924-2017

Harriett Lynne Gall passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends at her home in Napa on Saturday, April 22, 2017. She was born on February 14, 1924 in Cleveland, Ohio. Harriett spent her childhood in El Paso, Texas, graduating from Glenville High School in June 1942. She worked as an office assistant for a brief period of time following high school. She met the love of her life, Theodore Gall and they were married in El Paso on December 6, 1946. Harriett and Ted celebrated their 70th year of marriage this past December.

Ted was an officer in the United States Army and Harriett dutifully joined him as a proud military wife traveling the world and moving about the country. Harriett made every military assignment one that provided her with the opportunity to volunteer and support those around her. She connected to people in new assignments through the American Red Cross volunteering in military hospitals in each of Ted’s assignments.

Upon settling in Napa in 1967 with Ted’s retirement coming in December 1971, Harriett immersed herself in organizations that supported and cared for people and children. She volunteered as a lunch time supervisor at Bel-Aire Elementary School, was recognized countless times by the Vintage High School Athletic Booster Club for running concession stands at Memorial Stadium and helping with swim meets and spent years working with the Napa Swim Club. She enjoyed taking adaptive physical education classes at Napa Valley College and one of her greatest loves was attending meetings with the Napa Valley Quilters. Harriett’s neighborhood was the heart of her life. She loved caring for and making bread and cookies for the neighbors on her street. Harriett had a gift for handwritten notes and started each day with a letter to some person from some special place in her life.

Harriett and her husband Ted enjoyed watching their granddaughters Alynda (volleyball) and Karyn (basketball) play sports at Napa High School. They enjoyed preparing “special boxes” for granddaughters Erin and Shaun who lived in Arizona and great-granddaughters Abby and Logan who live in Encinitas, California.

Mrs. Gall is survived by her daughter, Barbara Franco (Vic), Alynda Franco Davis (granddaughter), Abby and Logan Davis (great granddaughters), Karyn Franco (granddaughter); son, Daniel Gall (Kristi), Erin and Shaun Gall (granddaughters). Previously deceased is Theodore Gall (husband) and daughter, Carolyn DeLaCruz.

The family wishes to recognize the exceptional care Harriett received at home from Stayman Estate providers, and from the staff at Brookdale Napa where she was cared for over two years.  The family appreciates the team from Collabria Napa Valley Hospice for their care of Harriett as well as Concierge House Calls of the Napa Valley, Dr. Mark Singer.

Services will be held on Sunday, April 30 at 11:30 am at Tulocay. The family requests no flowers. If you would like to make an honor donation please donate to the Napa Valley Quilters, PO Box 405, Napa, CA 94559. Memories may be shared at www.tulocaycemetery.org.
