Glen Maurice Gentry

January 19, 2017

Glen Maurice Gentry, loving husband of Glenna, passed away peacefully at the age of 83 on January 19, 2017 at his home in Napa, California. He was born on February 25, 1933 in Morris, Oklahoma to Charles and Doris (Williams) Gentry.

Glen spent the first 11 years of his life in Morris, before moving to Richmond, CA. He graduated from Richmond High School in 1951. After graduation, he began a machinist apprenticeship at Mare Island Naval Shipyard in Vallejo. He was drafted into the US Army and it was during this time that he met Glenna while stationed in Oahu, Hawaii.

Glen and Glenna were married in May, 1959. They raised five sons and maintained their home together in Napa for 57 years. Glen continued his career at Mare Island until his retirement as a Ship Scheduler in November, 1990.

Glen was predeceased in death by his parents Charles and Doris Gentry and by his brother Joe.

He is survived by his wife Glenna of Napa, his sons Tim (Diane) Gentry of Napa; Eric (Lori) Gentry of Flagstaff, Arizona; Jonathan (Shelia) Gentry of Napa; Jason (Lani) Gentry of Berkeley; Joel (Joelle) Gentry of Napa; his sister Minnie Lee Brady; his sister Peggy (Ken) Miller; sister in law Dolores Gentry; his grandchildren Rachael (Jake) Brady, Megan, Rebecca, Kyle, Kellen, Emily, Lizzie, and Luke; and numerous nephews and nieces.

Glen enjoyed life. He was always ready to “swap a story or two” with a friend. He completely restored his 1955 Chevrolet pick-up. He and Glenna enjoyed traveling to old or new places. He watched as many as possible his sons and grandchildren’s ball games, encouraging them on. His greatest joy in life was always his family and time spent together.

Glen was humble, kind, caring and was a loving husband, father, brother, and grandfather. He will be greatly missed.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, February 11th at Tulocay Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to one of Glen’s greatest joys, youth baseball. Please direct them to the fund established in his honor “Napa Little League – Gentry Memorial Scholarship Fund” PO Box 2777, Napa, CA 94558.
