Edith G. Davis

Edith G. Davis.  Edith was born in Reeder, ND and grew up on a family farm in Montana’s Bitterroot Valley. Much later, her stories of farm life helped encourage her own children to join the local 4-H club as they were growing up.

Edith was in her early twenties when she moved to Arcata, CA to stay with her mom’s sister. She met her future husband of 50+ years, Don, while she was working as a bank teller and he came in to deposit a paycheck. In 1956, they settled in Napa where Don taught at Napa High School and Edith worked for Crocker Bank. She eventually joined Bank of America as a teller and worked at the 1st Street branch in Napa for 30 years until her retirement.

In her spare time she was a member of NVUSD Faculty Wives and an avid gardener. She planted an ambitious garden every summer and was always thrilled once it started producing. Later, as her kids moved out, she switched her focus to growing Dahlias, and when all her Dahlias were in bloom, the backyard resembled a floral fireworks display.

Edith passed on Saturday, October 14, 2017 due to complications from a fall and encroaching dementia. She is greatly missed. Edith is survived by her children: Valerie, Cheryl and Glen.

We will remember for her for her love of camping at Bodega Bay with Dad in their trailer or going on scenic drives, the companionship she built with her various pets through her life—Duchess, Blossom, Buster, Sparky, Bucky, Flea, Kato, Lavern and Shirley, her enthusiastic fandom for the Niners, the Giants, the Warriors, and the tennis-playing Williams sisters, her delight when all her lids sealed during a canning marathon or the bread dough rose as expected, her enjoyment of decorating the house for various holidays, and her epic battles versus the slugs and snails munching on her Dahlias.

In lieu of flowers, donations are requested in honor of Edith to Napa County Office of Education, 2121 Imola Ave, Napa CA 94559 Attn: Donations for VHS Ag Program, or Napa Valley Humane Society.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, October 25, 2017 at 11:00 am at Tulocay Cemetery and Funeral Home, 411 Coombsville Rd, Napa California 94559.
