David Martin

May 26, 1964 ~ May 1, 2016 (age 51) 51 Years Old

David Lawrence Martin

 1964 - 2016)

After a valiant fight against cancer, Dave passed away on Sunday.   He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Tracy, his children, Mitchell (17), Kendall (16) & Miles (12) and his mother, Carol, sister Linda Takimoto (Marty), brothers - Peter (Jessica) and Tevis III (Lynne).   He joins his father, Tevis Jr., who departed in November.   Dave was a proud 4th generation Californian.

Born and raised in San Carlos, CA, Dave enjoyed his education at St. Charles grammar school, Serra High School, the University of California at Santa Barbara (BA) and the University of San Diego (MBA).   At Serra (Class of ’82) he excelled in baseball and as a defensive back in football, where earned All WCAL honors. After college he enjoyed playing rugby for The Olympic Club.

He was an entrepreneurial executive in the medical device industry.  His early sales management career included Boston Scientific, Guidant, Rita Medical, &CardioVention.   He served as COO at Foxhollow Technologies, and, for the past eleven years, as President and CEO at Cardiovascular Systems (CSI).  Under Dave’s leadership, CSI grew from a start-up to a public company and its products improved the quality of life for thousands of patients living with peripheral and coronary artery disease.

What made Dave special was his generosity and ability to connect with people.   He was genuinely interested in you, which resulted in a small army of ‘brothers & sisters’ from every part of his life.  Dave was a valued friend, a respected mentor, and a beloved son, brother, husband and father.   He never wanted attention for his frequent random acts of kindness.  Dave was happiest when surrounded by family, or, watching the many sports activities of his three children.

A memorial Mass will be held at St. Apollinaris Church, 3700 Lassen Street, Napa, CA at 10:00 am on Wednesday, May 18th with a reception to follow at The Silverado Resort.   Attire need not be formal or dark in color, but a flair of Dave’s beloved Viking purple is always welcome.  Donations, in lieu of flowers,  in his memory are suggested to Catholic Charities.  Online: www.srcharities.org/get-involved/give with Purpose Note: Napa Programs.  Mail to Catholic Charities, PO Box 4900, Santa Rosa CA 95402 Note: Napa Programs.  Memories may be shared with the family on-line at www.tulocaycemetery.org.
