DR WILLIAM WARREN TAYLOR

1952-2016

Dr. William Warren Taylor Jr. “Warren”, age 64, of Napa Ca, died from prostate cancer at home surrounded by his wife, children, and dogs on July 6, 2016.

Warren was born to William Warren and Norma Taylor on January 12, 1952 in Ridgewood, New Jersey. He spent the first years of his life in New Jersey and Maryland until his family moved to Stockton, California in 1964.  He graduated salutatorian from Stagg High School in 1970 and went on to receive his BA in Psychology from Stanford. Following graduating from Stanford, he began medical school at UC San Diego where he met his loving wife of 38 years Janice Beglau- Taylor. After completing his residency in Family Practice, Warren and Janice moved to Napa where Warren began his 30 year career at Kaiser Permanente. Warren and Janice welcomed a beautiful baby girl Loralyn, in 1988 followed by a wonderful boy Brendan, in 1993. Warren frequently stated that his children and Janice where the greatest gifts in his life and took great pride in his family.

Warren served as chief of medicine from 1991-1999 at the Napa clinic. This began his fruitful career of many other leadership roles within Kaiser. He was the first Medical Director for Chronic Conditions Management in Northern California for TPMG starting in 2000. He worked as a Care Management Institute Clinical Lead in Medicare/Eldercare Strategy, Specials Needs Program/Complex Care, and Medicare Clinical On-Boarding. He also worked in integrating mental behavioral health in Kaiser as the Primary Care Co-Lead for Depression in Northern California. Warren was very proud of the changes he helped implement in preventive medicine and chronic conditions management. As a testament to his great accomplishments he was honored with the Sidney R. Garfield Exceptional Contribution Award (2009) for his work in Cardiovascular Risk Reduction Program. He was quoted saying of the program- “When I think about all of the heart attacks and strokes, and of all the premature deaths we’ve prevented; the people we’ve really helped — there is no greater joy on earth.”

Warren was a Renaissance man and in his free time enjoyed music, art, hiking, travel, sports, cooking, and fine wine. He had a life-long love of learning and even in his last months was studying classical music through an on-line course.  In high school, he traveled to Piura, Peru as an exchange student and the experience influenced him to sponsor an exchange student of his own. In 2005, Katja Kruger of Germany, joined the Taylor’s and they came to love like her a daughter.  Along with his family, Warren was an active volunteer with Guide Dogs for the Blind raising multiple puppies for their program.  In the last 9 years, Warren cut back from work and spent some invaluable time with family and friends. He traveled to Europe, Hawaii and spent time in one of his favorite places, Plumas National Forrest.

Warren is survived by his beloved wife Janice Beglau-Taylor; his daughter Loralyn Taylor, son-in-law Andrew Barker of Napa, and his son Brendan Warren Taylor of Napa. He also leaves his parents Warren and Norma Taylor of San Rafael, California; sisters Jani Taylor of Thousand Oaks and Nicki Klevan of Monterey and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by sister, Priscilla Peterson. He will be remembered by all who knew him for his incredible kindness, sense of humor, and deep love of learning. Warren was an amazing human-being who changed many lives as a father, husband, friend, and physician. He lived his life by the following quote and encouraged others to the same ““How far you go in life depends on your being tender with the young, compassionate with the aged, sympathetic with the striving, and tolerant of the weak and the strong. Because someday in life you will have been all of these.”- George Washington Carver. He will be loved forever, living on through our memories, and dearly missed.

Warren’s family welcomes friends and community members who knew him to join us in a celebration of his life on August 6th2016 at 1:00 pm at Tulocay Funeral Home.
