Consuelo Mendez

Consuelo (Garcia) Mendez, 84, died peacefully in her Napa home on May 27, 2017. She spent her final days surrounded by visitors and her loving family.

Consuelo was born in La Piedad, Michoacán in Mexico in 1932. She was one of 11 siblings. She met and married Guadalupe Mendez at a hometown church. In 1950, the couple left Mexico for California in search of a better life. Together with their growing family, they have called the Napa Valley home ever since.

Consuelo’s greatest joy was being a mother and grandmother to her many “Sweeties” and “Cutie Pies.” Throughout her life, she was happiest when her home was full of family, friends and neighbors. Whether it was a family gathering or a weekday, she welcomed all into her kitchen for a hot meal, homemade tortillas and conversation. She touched the lives of many with her hospitality and humility.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 69 years, Guadalupe, and their seven children: Bertha Alicia Guzman; Rogelio “Roger” (Lynda) Mendez; Rosalia “Rose” Mendez; Alfredo “Al” Mendez; Graciela (Rogelio) De Haro; Guadalupe “Lupe” Mendez Jr.; and Enrique “Rick” (Debra) Mendez. She is also survived by dozens of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and many other adopted family members. She is predeceased by her parents, Guadalupe Garcia Valladolid and Esperanza Arciga Reyes, and her great grandson, Richard Allen Hernandez.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, July 8, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Tulocay Cemetery: 411 Coombsville Rd., Napa. The family wishes to thank the hospice caregivers for their support over the last few weeks.

Consuelo leaves a legacy of deep family values, unconditional love and respect. We will miss her greatly.
