ANTHONY LAZZARA

1944-2016

Our Cowboy beheld his last sunseton Wednesday morning.  Mr. Anthony Joseph Lazzara, “Tony” died holding his wife’s hand in his home on April 20, 2016 in Napa, California at the age of 71. He lost his one-year battle with cancer.

Anthony is survived by his wife Jan Lazzara; children, Maria Lazzara Janovich (Daniel Jr.) of Napa and Angelina Lazzara Warner (Allen) of Daly City; Grandsons, Daniel III, Anthony “AJ”& Walter. He is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph & Rosa Lazzara& sister Rosa Mariaof Daly City.

Anthony was born on November 27, 1944 in Modesto, California to Joseph & Rosa. He graduated from Mission High School in San Francisco and began work as a trucker, hauling steel from San Francisco to Los Angeles. His love for horses got him involved the San Francisco Horseman Association.  In 1971, this is where he met Jan and they married in 1972 and rode horses together all the years thereafter.  Anthony started his career with Ital foods Inc., in May of 1980 as a Salesman selling imported Italian goods throughout the Bay Area. His love for food never stopped.  He retired in 2015.  A desire for green pastures moved them to Napa, California in 1979 on 5 acres filled with barns, horses and hay.

Anthony loved hunting and fishing, sailing and collecting tractors and trains.  He was an accomplished Horseman and was an active and dedicated member of the Los Viajeros Riding Club (former President), the Napa Valley Horseman’s Association and the San Francisco Horseman’s Association.  He was a former member of the San Francisco Mounted Sheriff’s Posse and the Napa Mounted Sheriffs Posse and a 35year guest of the Fall ride with the San Mateo Mounted Patrol.

Tony lived his life to the fullest he seized each day as if it were his last.  If he wanted it, he bought it.  If he thought of it, he did it.  All the while entertaining us with endless stories of his many adventures and making us wonder if they could be true.  We hope they accept his single sailor’s membership in heaven (all the while still married 47 years).

A funeral is scheduled for 11:00 am on Friday April 29, 2016 at Tulocay Funeral Home on 411 Coombsville Road, Napa California, with a reception to follow at the same location. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Anthony’s life.  Memories and words of sympathy may be shared with the family on-line at www.tulocaycemetery.org.
